It’s official folks, The Last of Us is finally getting that sequel we have been hoping for.
The Last of Us Part II was revealed at Sony’s PlayStation Experience event with a teaser trailer and a not so revealing discussion panel. Ellie and Joel will be returning for another epic journey that takes place five years after the first game.
The trailer does not really give us any indication of where the story is heading. Apart from a beautiful but empty world and an angry Ellie playing “Through the Valley” on a guitar we do not see much. Strangely we do not get to see Joel’s face as the camera is positioned behind him during his presence in the trailer. This has lead fans of The Last of Us to believe that Joel is in fact deceased and that Ellie is only seeing him in her mind. This theory seems as unlikely as the next. One thing fans should keep in mind is the deceitful trailer. Remember the trailer for The Last of Us in which we saw Ellie about to shoot Joel? We sure do!
The following post was made on Sony PlayStation’s page for The Last of Us Part II:
“I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, it wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey.
It’s still early days for the project–the game’s release is a ways off–but we couldn’t wait any longer to give you a glimpse of what’s to come. We’re going to let the trailer speak for itself, but expect more information about The Last of Us Part II in the coming months.
Until next time, endure and survive!

Here is to hoping that we will see The Last of Us Part II sooner rather than later, however we don’t mind if Naughty Dog keeps this one at bay until it is absolutely ready to be released. The Last of Us was a masterpiece and it’s sequel has big shoes to fill. There will be some seriously high expectations for The Last of Us Part II. If Naughty Dog has proved anything over the years, it is that they are extremely good at what they do and they always deliver, no matter what.
